Join the Cumberland County Historical Society and delve into the Scots-Irish on this tour that focuses on the Plantation of Ulster that began in 1609. Carlisle, Pennsylvania, has a rich Scots-Irish heritage. Carlisle and Cumberland County were prominent destinations for Scots-Irish immigrants during the 18th century. James Hamilton laid out Carlisle in 1751, and the settlement was incorporated into a borough in 1782.
This tour will visit all 9 counties of Ulster - compromising of 6 counties in Northern Ireland (Derry, Antrim, Down, Tyrone, Armagh, Fermanagh) and 3 counties in the Republic of Ireland (Cavan, Monaghan & Donegal). You will have access to a genealogist in Ireland, for a fee, and she will accompany your visit to PRONI (Public Records Office of Northern Ireland) in Belfast. This tour combines experiences of diverse culture, history, and stunning landscapes.
